6 Tips to planning a wedding that is
personal and purposeful
21/01/21
Your wedding day is a beautiful occasion that should reflect your personality, tastes and ultimately tell the story of your journey of love. In a world bombarded full of wedding inspiration, it’s easy to fall into the trap of having a ceremony that is simply put, quite same-y. Here at Prime Violet Events we encourage our couples to celebrate their authenticity and truly let their persona shine through! No one is you and that is your power so if you’re a couple who wants to bring your story to life in a unique and meaningful way, here are some tips on how you can plan a purposeful wedding that stands out in the crowd.
It all begins with you!
What does this mean you might ask? People are gathering to celebrate both of YOU so your wedding should reflect who you are as a couple. Have a think about your personal tastes, styles, likes and dislikes. What makes you both cringe at a wedding and what sparks joy? Don’t just copy something just for the sake of it; it has to be included on your day for a true reason and a purpose. You will never go wrong by choosing to be original and genuine to yourselves. There’s no point having a day that looks or feels out of touch with who you are or worse still, like someone else’s. Look inwardly and look around you to find inspiration that makes you, YOU.
You’re allowed to do things your way!
When it comes to ‘traditional’ wedding features, think about your overall theme and learn to keep those elements that work without hesitating to ditch those that don’t. Don’t feel obliged to incorporate those that don’t fit in and be ok with creating a tradition that is unique to you. The great thing about weddings in this day and age is that they can be whatever you want them to be and can go however you want them to go. That’s the beauty of making it yours! On that note, if you’re going for a wedding like no other, then let customisation be your (very) good friend. Whether it’s custom vows, bespoke entertainment, personalised programs or tailored accessories, be sure to use this as an opportunity to tell your story. Not only is customisation impactful, it’s stylish and adds a personal touch that guests will appreciate because it’s uniquely inspiring.

Opinions are a dime a dozen…. Don’t let them put you under pressure
Your wedding is a celebration of YOUR love and like said before, it’s the coming together of your friends, family and dearest ones. Whilst that is a heart-warming thing in itself, it is also a catalyst for people to offer you their opinions. You need to be prepared for the fact that people, some more than others, will have a say on how you should do things. You’ll get all types of opinions from what type of dress you should wear, who should come, the type of venue you should go for or a popular biggie, how much you should or shouldn’t spend. Yes suggestions and advice is great but if you want a wedding that is a true personal reflection of you, as a couple, then you’ve GOT TO respectfully put yourselves first and not let the weight of other peoples’ opinions put you under any undue pressure.
Get creative with the details
We LOVE it when an event has had a lot of creative thought put into it. Seeing how couples put an imaginative new spin on their wedding makes it a unique experience which is bespoke to them. For a wedding that stands out and is unique and distinctive, think about and find those details and elements of décor that speak true to your vision, personalities, culture, heritage and backgrounds. That might mean having a special cocktail served at the bar or having an unconventional choice of flowers that holds sentimental value. Whatever vision it is you’re looking to achieve, get creative with how you bring this all together and make sure to communicate this with all your suppliers!

Get a handle on the finances
Let’s face it, weddings can be an expensive affair. In 2019, the average cost of a UK wedding in 2019 was between £30k – 36k (2020 figures are skewed due to the effects of the global pandemic). With this in mind, it’s important to decide what matters most to you and what your non-negotiables are. Do your research and set a realistic budget for each item but please also remember there will be some costs you may not have considered. If at any point you need to lower your budget, don’t take it from areas that are most important to you. Do also know that the quality of most suppliers is reflected in their price and the saying “you get what you pay for” can certainly be true in most instances.
Finally,
Girls (and boys!) just wanna have fun
There’s a reason why FUN is listed as one of the PV Promises and that’s because we know planning a function can be serious business. The memories from this season will stay with you forever and that’s why it’s important to have a great time whilst planning. You won’t get this time back so you must try to relax and savour every moment (that means no panicking about favours at 3am in the morning!). Also, if you’re hiring a wedding planner, trust them to steer your ship and handle the details so that you can take the time to love on your partner and prepare for your lifetime together!
